More shows axed Friday, as NBC cut deep into its freshman class.
NBC rapidly canceled five programs in about one hour: Eva Longoria’s Telenovela, sitcom Crowded, thriller Game of Silence, comedy Undateable and medical drama Heartbeat.
The cuts represent most of the network’s freshman shows that debuted in the second half of the current broadcast season.
Two fates remain uncertain among the network’s lineup: Sophomore drama The Mysteries of Laura and second-season comedy The Carmichael Show. We might hear about both soon, so stay tuned.
The obits:
– Undateable was on its third season, and experimented with a live format on Friday nights. This year, the comedy averaged 3.2 million viewers and a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49.
– Telenovela starred Longoria as the neurotic star of fictional soap opera. The show debuted in December, and averaged 4.4 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49.
– The family sitcom Crowded starred Patrick Warburton and Carrie Preston as an empty nest couple whose kids move back into their home. The series just debuted in March and only scored 4 million viewers and a 1.0 rating.
– Heartbeat starred Melissa George as a transplant surgeon. The drama also debuted in March and averaged 5 million and only a 0.9 rating in the demo.
– The revenge thriller Game of Silence starred David Lyons. The show has been around since April and had 4.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.
The titles were cut from the network’s lineup Friday as broadcasters prepare to face advertisers at their upfront presentations in New York next week. Previously, the network renewed freshman titles Chicago Med, Superstore, Blindspot, and Shades of Blue.
