NBC has given a series order to the Famke Janssen-starring Blacklist spin-off, The Blacklist: Redemption, EW has learned.
Thursday’s episode of The Blacklist served as a backdoor pilot for the project, focusing on Janssen’s mysterious Scottie Hargrave and the contractors that make up her organization, including Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi) and Nez Rowan (Tawny Cypress).
Ryan Eggold is also slated to star in the spin-off as his character (and viewers) learned that his real name is Christopher Hargrave, as in Scottie’s son. However, Red (James Spader) cautioned Tom not to share that bit of information with Scottie — who believes her son died young — or all hell would break loose. (More on that here.)
Here’s the official logline: “In this thrilling new spinoff of NBC’s breakout hit series, undercover operative Tom Keen joins forces with Susan ‘Scottie’ Hargrave, the brilliant and cunning chief of Grey Matters, a covert mercenary organization that solves problems governments don’t dare touch. While on the hunt for Liz’s attacker, Tom secretly discovered that Scottie is actually his biological mother. Now, as they team up to employ their unique skills and resources in a dangerous world of deadly criminals, Tom begins his own covert mission to find out more about his shadowy past.”
The Red-light episode drew 6.4 million viewers and a 1.3 in the 18–49 demo, which is an 8 percent bump in the demo over last week. Those numbers are expected to increase immensely with Live +7 viewing. This season, The Blacklist has grown by 98 percent in the 18–49 demo and added 4.8 million viewers overall from same day to +7.
The Blacklist: Redemption hails from Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath, who will write and executive-produce with John Fox and John Davis.
